We stayed last week for 3 nights and it was absolutely beautiful! Very private, no electricity, no water but if you go 13 miles near the entrance you can use water and dump station at Riley Creek. We did the 12 hours tour to Kanteeshna and we liked it. Our bus driver, Wendy, was super cool, friendly, very informative and awesome! No recommended for young kids, too long! We did the Savage River trail hike and it was amazing! We would definitely stay here again! We left Denali's River Salvage Campground with no intention of coming back to an overrated and overhyped with poorly run park. Took us 3 months to reserve the famed wilderness of Denali and we were so looking forward to our stay. View? Most likely, you will have no majestic view of the famed mountain from anywhere in its 32 sites, nor beautiful lake, nor undulating landscape... none, just spruce after spruce jungle. And no mammal larger than 1lbs visit our campsite, on trails, or lookouts... just a rude camp host came by twice in less than 24hrs period to tell us to put away trailer wipe towels to avoid bears! There is no smell of food or cooking odor on the wipes we assured her, just use it to wipe mud off our truck handles and trailer door and windows, we assured her. Next morning, she also tell us to pack up the stove we used cooking breakfast few minutes ago! We not about to put a hot stove into the trailer or truck until it has completely cool down, period. Irritate from her pestering and we showed it, she pulling her bicycle back and mumbling some apologies. Watching her taken off, we remembered her advise yesterday about bear deterrence... to make noise and waving your arms to scare it off, and we fondly remember Timothy Treadwell, the bear expert whom bear knowledge and agonizing screams didn't deter the bear, as well as Treadwell's girlfriend banging on pan and loud screaming didn't deter the bear. We told her that we always carry 10oz bear spray canisters and know how to use it. She advises to use it within 10ft of the bear charging! What? 30ft-40ft is what we trained to do. Tuning her out and say goodbye to Denali after staying on the first day (even thought we booked 2 days) so we can have better vacation elsewhere in this beautiful Alaska. Great place in the park, the only one you can drive to on your own. Great trails or you can just walk on the road farther into the park. Alert! Bear attacks in area & campground. We booked months in advance, arrived, paid & checked in at headquarters, drove 13 miles into the park, found site & began unpacking when the park host came & told us we couldn't stay (pop-up camper). We had to repack, drive back to headquarters & was accommodated at Riley Campground. Turned out better anyway but was unorganized. Great rustic appeal
