Rest, read, and thank a veteran at the Alaska Veterans Memorial. My father and I stopped here on our way back to Anchorage from Denali National Park and Preserve. My father retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service at Eielson AFB. My father didn't know this memorial was here, so it was nice surprise for him. The Alaska Veterans Memorial contains Alaska history that relates to different branches of the military such as the Alaska National Guard, Merchant Marine, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Corps, and Army. Restrooms are here and plenty of parking for cars and RVs. The memorial is very well done. The stop is informative and not only describes the WWII contributions of Alaska, but also the very early exploration, road building and communications the Army did in the territory. I always like to stop here. The information center is helpful and it's a nice place to stop and eat lunch... if you brought lunch with you, of course. Nice memorial honoring the Alaskan men and women who have served in our armed services. A great rest area and very well done to honor our Veterans. My kids had learned from here and we love to stop for a picnic. It's a beautiful memorial. The rest area itself is grassy and well maintained. There's even a ranger station with info about Denali NP. Best view of Denali anywhere along the Parks Highway. Super easy to pull in and out of and plenty of parking. Stretch your legs here if you don't stop anywhere else!
